Topic 9 – Migration | Econproph [Comp. Systems 2017]

This topic deals with migration. I saw migration because immigration and emmigration are simply two sides of the same movement. Every immigrant to a nation is also an emmigrant from their home country.

Any sort of “migration” is a sensitive topic to many people. Some believe that “illegal immigrants” are the root of the United State’s problem. That they steal jobs, increase crime, and receive government aid but have no job (I know kind of contradictory huh?). The same people that believe this are the same people who think all immigrants are minorities, which again is not true. The other side of the coin is that we all are immigrants, minority immigrants take the jobs we as the American people deem ourselves too good to do, and generally stay under the radar committing few crimes as they do not want to be deported if they commit a crime and are caught.
As one of the articles state immigrants are important for farm work as many others do not wish to do such difficult low paying work. As another states immigrants do not increase crime, again backing the the idea that we should not ban immigrants. Immigrants are what built this country and yes I agree that illegal ones should be deported, but we should allow them in with green cards and make sure their background checks out as well as their reasoning to want to come to the United States. We should not separate families.
The U.S already sticks it’s nose in every other countries business trying to make the world “better” instead of focusing on military action why not help the people of those countries instead? Aren’t we suppose to be “the land of opportunities”?

Immigration was a major topic in this last election. With Donald Trump as president, one of his focused topics is about immigration, if not his main focus. From building a wall to banning muslims, I’d say the topic of immigration is a big concern to this country. The first NY Times article was a quite interesting article. It shows the irony of the farmers who voted for Trump but in return they risk their workers being deported. The trade off, the California Farmers vote for Trump in return they hope he will lower taxes and regulations. “His [Trump] message of reducing regulations and taxes appealed to this Republican stronghold.” Voting republican, especially during this presidential election, I believe is a conflict of interest for those who employ immigrant workers. Many of the people who voted for republicans however are against immigrants in general. They believe that crime has increased because of them. The third article however contradicts that. The people who voted Trump, a majority of them, have Obamacare. This irony you can see is similar to that of the farmers. They vote for Trump but Trump is opposed to their very own healthcare that he plans on removing. This doesn’t make sense to me.

The first article about California farmers, voting for president Trump but now regretting their decisions because they thought that Trumps immigration talk was just empty threats and now the fact that they fear losing their illegal workers is well great. I really agree with the second article why are those farm jobs not held by our american people? Why is 70% of the farming jobs held by migrant workers. Why should Americans have trouble finding work in there own country when there are plenty of jobs, they are just being held by illegal immigrants?

The very last article came a surprise to me, I guess it shows how much media sways your opinion on things…I never gave a thought that immigration reduces crime. But of course the media only shows the negative and everyone decides to agree that the news is always correct. Not looking for backing information behind something can really make anyone look unintelligent now a days. (I’m sure most of us our). After all of these readings and the slide show I see how little of a problem immigrants are to our economy and that they actually may boost it! So the question should be is this a problem that we should even focus on when there is much more to worry about in the USA today?

As everyone has already stated Immigration and the Presidential election of 2016 went hand in hand. The irony of Donald Trump’s hate rhetoric on banning Muslims and deporting immigrants is 100% nonsense, as it had been previously pointed out that many of Trumps construction workers and numerous other positions were held by the very people he claimed should be deported. He spouted and continues to spout this type of rhetoric while not only employing immigrant workers but also coming from immigrants, himself, which is the case for all Americans other than Native Americans.

It’s wildly fraudulent to claim that immigrants are criminals or even commit a majority of American crimes, it’s not even logical. In fact, according to the Scientific American “large cities with substantial immigrant populations have lower crime rates, on average, than those with minimal immigrant populations. ” These people come looking for a better life and accepting any work they can get so thus it wouldn’t even make sense for them to commit crimes knowing the consequences of being deported, they just wouldn’t want to draw attention to themselves.
